LEED Certification

The Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas has been registered for LEED Certification; LEED specialists are members of the architectural, construction and project management teams.

The building's dramatic exterior is made of unfinished copper. Used in its natural state, and intentionally untreated, the copper provides drama and change in its palette, both as daylight changes and over time. No chemical treatments to this finish translate to less chemicals needed to maintain the building.

A unique water treatment system will take water from nearby Lake Carolyn, use it for the building's "gray" needs, gently re-treat it on site, and place it back into the lake. Building management and operations will aim at minimizing the facilitiy's footprint by purchasing locally produced and sustainably raised products, using non-petroleum-based products and recycling and composting all waste whenever possible.
